deep tissue massage
Deep tissue massage targets the sub-layer of musculature and fascia (connective tissue). Connective tissue surrounds and connects every muscle, organ, and bone in our bodies. This is a firm style of work, both slower and more focused than Swedish. It also can focus on neuro-muscular trigger points embedded in areas of chronic pain, tightness, and/or injury sites. Muscular origins and insertions are stimulated to release chronic and acute tension, injury and inflammation. Deep Tissue work is very effective in injury rehabilitation, relieving inflammation related pain caused by arthritis and tendonitis, breaking down scar tissue and retraining the body to generate new healthy tissue. The main goal of deep tissue work is the lengthening, spreading, and differentiating of the fascial components of the body. Deep Tissue Massage is designed to “un-stick” the muscle fibers, releasing toxins and deeply held patterns of tension. Keep in mind that some mild soreness is fairly common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.
